Cleopatra Necklace - In Progress

Cleopatra Necklace - In Progress

I’ve admittedly been down in the dumps lately. The winter got to me a little harder than I’d realized, and then some personal problems arose in the late winter. I wish I would have blogged more about things like my trip to Savannah. But alas! I didn’t!

I think (hopefully) I’m back in the swing of things, though. I’m feeling really inspired by the hope of spring and just generally being able to afford new supplies! Yayee new supplies!

Here’s a sneak preview of my latest Rara Avis Collection necklace inspired by Cleopatra. It’s various shades and shape of bronze and gold freshwater pearls, lapis lazuli, yellow fluorite, and golden rutilated quartz. The focal bead is a 50mm (That’s 2 inches!) in length, so this is going to be quite the statement necklace.

Preview to the new year! I’ll be back in January! Have a happy new year!

New Dining Chairs

So it’s not that often that I talk about things other than my jewelry on my blog, but I’m starting to feel like that isn’t always the most interesting subject.  Sometimes I just want to show something off, you know?

For instance, it’s garage sale season, which means that I am in business for finding awesome vintage pieces for super cheap.  Thrifting and garage sale-attending are two of my favorite past times, so it’s only natural that I write about it in my blog, right?  Right.

So behold!  My new dining room chairs!  I scored four of these aqua babies for $2 a piece.  I’m jealous of myself.  Seriously.

Clusters of lemon quartz and lovely red rubies form around amazingly plump lemon quartz briolettes in a dreamy light yellow. All of this is happening underneath devastatingly long hand-fabricated filigree pieces inspired by the Russian filigree style.

All metal is sterling silver that has been oxidized and given a satin, aged finish. Measures a sumptuous 2 3/4” long.

Part of my Rara Avis collection, which is my own signature filigree teamed with quality precious and semi-precious stones and pearls.

New Interview!

Kristy of Shiny Adornments was kind enough to profile me for her blog.  Check out the interview here.  Be sure to give her beautiful artisan jewelry a look, too!

Finally Finished!

Supplies

About a month ago I started collecting pieces for this necklace I have in my mind.  The problem is that I have two versions of what the necklace looks like in my head!  This tends to be a hurdle for me, because I see all the variations of a necklace in my head before I start to make it.  It’s always a choice I have to make.  Fortunately this is a piece I still need to make the filigree for, so I have a little bit of time to figure it out.  This will be a dark design for the Rara Avis Collection.

Right now I’m just wrapping beads until my fingers fall off and hoping that eventually I’ll be brave enough to put together a full necklace.

Beads include: London Blue Topaz, Garnet, and Keshi Pearls.

All metal is gold-filled. Measures 1 ½” from top to bottom
